wild urs

yahoo! like i said, i had a great trip. let me tell you what happened...

DAY 1
i woke up late to catch the fast ferry (the one that i really didn't where to catch) but got there in good time, and enjoyed the ride to nanaimo. then i had to book it to the gabriola ferry (my flip-flop started to fall apart on the fast ferry... and i had decided while packing that i really didn't need to weigh my bag down with an extra pair of shoes, when it was supposed to be sunny all week, and i already had the non-travel sized rummykub with me). anyway, i made the ferry with a couple mins to spare, and was greeted on the other side by rachel and bruce. we got some food for the next three days and then drove to their boat to mudge island.

we made dinner, and then went on bruce's special "sunset cruise" which was a great orientation. there are smaller islands all around, and you can see the mountains on the horizon when you're out on the water... it was so gorgeous...cinematic baby!

rach and i played some rummykub, read/listened to books and hit the hay.

DAY 2
had a walking tour/rock climb of the island. tanned. swam. p.s. i am such a baby. yes. barnacles etc. are reasons to NOT get pedicures. i couldn't even stand on a rock without almost crying! oh, and i cut my leg on a rock or something. we went home prepared dinner, and played some yahtzee. and ate dinner. and then tried to go canoeing. (ohmygod, i can't even type this without laughing). i have totally been canoeing before. successfully. more than once! we dragged the canoe down to the water, and i got in. rachel got in, and i TOTALLY lost my balance and tipped the canoe. i don't know how rachel stayed dry... she only got the bottom of one pant leg wet. anyway. we were laughing out asses off, and decided to try again. we decided i'd go in the front, and at first it felt more stable. i believe my words were: oh yeah! this is much better! oh no! *flips the canoe again*. i was literally laying in the water, laughing. rachel couldn't even stand up she was laughing so hard. if i hadn't peed before we left, i probably would have pees my pants off. oh god. it was hilarious. so, instead, i changed and we went to visit the deer. this was cool. there were probably 10 deer, mostly bucks. there were a couple does with babies too. we grabbed some apples from the trees and slowly lured the deer closer. one deer, that we named patty ate most of the apples, and was the least shy. they came within a few metres and kinda started to scare us a bit, once we'd run out of apples.

then we played rummikub and went to bed.

DAY 3

had breakkie. played yahtzee. had lunch. went swimming. got slightly burned on my back (after only like 10 mins). but my front was tanning nicely. had my first shower of the trip. after dinner, we went on another sunset cruise. this one went around other islands, and we saw this super-cool rocks; they had huge holes beaten in them from wind and water. some looked like huge honeycombs, others like caves, all bleached white. then rachel and i went to see the deer again. patty was waiting for us! he followed us to the apples, where we picked a bunch, and by then there were lots more deer. it was crazy. patty came as close as 3 feet away! at one point we were practically surrounded by deer. when i got up to get more apples, they didn't even get scared, they just chillaxed waiting for more apples. as we were leaving, patty started to follow us. we're convinced we could ahve had him eating out of our hands in another couple days.

after another game of yahtzee, we went down to the beach. we saw some shooting stars (the stars were so bright). and we played in the water to get the plankton (or whatever they are) to twinkle. if you run your hand through the water, it looks like fireflies sparkling behind. i had never seen this before. it was like pixie dust.

we played some rummikub. read/listened and went to bed. we heard this tapping noise, which we had to inspect. i think it was just a moth. which i killed. then there was a noise, that i swear was something coming up on the stairs. finally, i think we were both about to sleep or sleeping when the smoke alarm went off! and still later... we were awoken with the sound of my dying cell phone that we were using as an alarm clock. it was a crazy night!

DAY 4
made it to both ferries on time, there was an obnoxious group of guys for a stag on the fast ferry. they were totally loud and drunk. rachel and i played some rummikub to end the trip properly, and to make me carrying the damn thing all around worth while. then i took the sky train and a bus and made it home in my flip flops!

whoo hoo!

i had soooo much fun! thanks to mary, bruce and rach!
